Veeam backup licensing for servers, cloud and Microsoft 365

Veeam licensing for companies in Canada, the UK, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan. We size Veeam Backup & Replication and the Veeam Data Platform for your servers, virtual machines and Microsoft 365, then help you prove that every backup really restores.

Overview

Veeam licensing that matches what you need to protect

Backups are the one system nobody thinks about until the day they matter. A server fails, a ransomware attack encrypts a file share, or someone deletes a folder of contracts, and suddenly the only question is how quickly you can get the data back. Veeam is one of the most widely used answers to that question, from small offices with a handful of servers to large data centres.

Veeam licensing is mostly counted by workload. A virtual machine, a physical server, a laptop or a cloud instance each uses part of a Veeam Universal License, which makes it easy to move protection around as your estate changes. Microsoft 365 backup is counted separately, by user.

As an authorised Veeam reseller we count what you need to protect, choose the right edition, supply the licences and help you set up a backup design that follows the simple rule of three copies, on two kinds of storage, with one kept offsite.

Veeam products we supply:

  • Veeam Backup & Replication
  • Veeam Data Platform Foundation, Advanced and Premium
  • Veeam Universal License subscriptions
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
  • Veeam Community Edition for very small sites
  • Renewals of existing Veeam contracts

What we supply

Veeam licensing for servers, cloud and Microsoft 365

One vendor for most backup needs, licensed in a few clear ways.

Veeam Backup & Replication

The core Veeam Backup product protects VMware and Microsoft virtual machines and physical servers, with fast restores of whole machines, single files or application items.

Veeam Data Platform editions

Veeam Data Platform bundles Veeam Backup with monitoring and recovery orchestration. Foundation suits most firms; Advanced and Premium add more reporting and tested recovery plans.

Veeam Universal License

A Veeam Universal License covers a set number of workloads, whatever they are. Retire a physical server and the same licence can protect a new virtual machine.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365

Microsoft keeps your mail running, not your history. Veeam backs up Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, licensed per user.

Veeam backup to the cloud

Copy backups to Azure, AWS or a service provider so one copy always sits away from your building, ready if the site itself is lost.

Veeam Community Edition

A free Veeam edition protects a small number of workloads. It is a sensible start for very small offices, and we will tell you when it is enough.

Ransomware

Veeam backup that survives ransomware

Modern ransomware goes after backups first. If an attacker can delete or encrypt your backup copies, they know you will have to pay. That is why a backup design matters as much as the backup software.

We set Veeam up with at least one copy that cannot be changed for a set period, either on hardened Linux storage or in cloud object storage with immutability switched on, and with backup accounts kept separate from everyday admin accounts. Then we test a restore, because a backup nobody has restored is only a hope.

The Veeam backup rules we follow:

  • Three copies of important data
  • Two different kinds of storage
  • One copy kept offsite
  • One copy that cannot be changed
  • Restores tested on a schedule

Microsoft 365

Why Microsoft 365 still needs Veeam backup

Microsoft keeps its service running, but the shared responsibility model leaves your data, and mistakes made with it, to you. Deleted items age out, a leaver’s mailbox disappears when the licence is removed, and a ransomware infected laptop can sync damage straight into OneDrive.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 keeps an independent copy of mail, files and Teams data on your terms, with restores down to a single message. Veeam explains the product on the official Veeam website, and our Microsoft licensing page covers the Microsoft side.

Sizing

Getting Veeam licensing size right

Most Veeam licensing mistakes come from counting the wrong things. Test machines that never need protecting, replicas counted twice, or a file server protected as both a virtual machine and an agent. A careful count before the quote often saves a noticeable share of the cost.

We also look at storage, because the licence is only part of the price of good backup. Repository size, retention and offsite copies all add up, and the right Veeam settings can cut storage needs considerably.

Restore testing

Proving Veeam backup works with restore tests

A green tick in a backup report only says that data was copied. It does not say that the copy can be restored, that the application starts afterwards or that the restore finishes before the business gives up waiting. Veeam includes tools to test restores automatically in an isolated lab, and we switch them on.

We also agree recovery targets with you in plain language: how much data you can afford to lose and how long each system can be down. Those two numbers decide how often Veeam backs up, where copies are kept and which Veeam Data Platform edition makes sense.

Why ApexGenTech

Why buy Veeam licensing from us

Backup sits at the edge of everything else we do. Our support plans include backup checks and restore tests, our cybersecurity services look at whether backups would survive an attack, and our VMware licensing work covers the platform your virtual machines run on.

If you also need to protect endpoints from the attacks that make backups necessary, see our CrowdStrike and Sophos pages.

FAQ

Veeam licensing FAQs

Is ApexGenTech an authorised Veeam reseller?

Yes. ApexGenTech is an authorised Veeam reseller, supplying Veeam licensing, backup design and support in Canada, the UK, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan.

How is Veeam licensing counted?

Most Veeam licensing uses the Veeam Universal License, counted by workloads such as virtual machines, physical servers and cloud instances. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is counted per user.

Which Veeam Data Platform edition do we need?

Foundation covers backup and recovery for most companies. Advanced adds monitoring and reporting, and Premium adds recovery orchestration for tested disaster recovery plans.

Can we still buy Veeam socket licences?

New purchases are normally Veeam Universal License subscriptions. Existing socket customers can often renew support, and we help you plan a move when it makes sense.

Does Microsoft 365 need a separate Veeam backup?

We recommend it. Microsoft protects its service, but deleted items, removed users and ransomware damage are your responsibility. Veeam keeps an independent copy.

Can Veeam test our backups automatically?

Yes. Veeam can start backed up machines in an isolated lab and check that they boot and their applications respond, so you know a restore will work before you need it.

Do you provide Veeam licensing in Saudi Arabia and Qatar?

Yes. We provide Veeam licensing in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as Canada, the UK, the UAE and Pakistan.

How is Veeam backup licensed?

Most Veeam backup today uses the Veeam Universal License, counted per protected workload such as a server or virtual machine, with Microsoft 365 backup counted per user. We count your workloads so Veeam backup is neither under nor over licensed.
