04 · Website launch and handover

We launch, and hand over so your team can maintain the site.

Why it matters

Your website is working for you, or against you, all day

For most businesses the website is the first place a customer forms an opinion. A slow page, a confusing menu or a layout that breaks on a phone costs enquiries you will never know you lost. A fast, clear, trustworthy site does the opposite: it answers questions before anyone has to ask, builds confidence and makes the next step obvious.

Our custom web development team designs and builds fast, modern, mobile friendly websites that look great and are easy to manage. From business websites to WordPress sites and custom web applications, we make sure your site is secure, quick to load and built to turn visitors into customers. Because the same team handles design, build and search visibility, the decisions that affect how your site performs are made together rather than argued about afterwards.

What good looks like

What we build into every website

Performance, accessibility and clean structure are standard on every build, not extras. In practice that means a site that holds up to scrutiny on all of these.

Six things every site we build has:

  • Web development for speed: images sized and compressed properly, code kept lean, and pages that load quickly on an ordinary mobile connection.
  • Mobile first: layouts designed for the phone in your customer’s hand, then scaled up, not the other way round.
  • Accessibility: readable contrast, sensible headings, descriptive image text and keyboard friendly navigation, so the site works for everyone.
  • Security: maintained software, protected forms and sensible access, so visitors and your data stay safe.
  • Search ready: a clean structure, proper page titles and descriptions and fast loading, which gives search engines a good foundation.
  • Easy to edit: a content system your own team can use without calling a developer for every change.

WordPress and beyond

Choosing WordPress or a custom web application

Many business websites are best built on WordPress, which is flexible, widely understood and easy for non technical staff to update. We build WordPress sites carefully, with a lean theme, only the plugins that are needed and a handover that shows your team how to manage it.

Some projects need more than a content site. A customer portal, an ordering workflow or a tool that talks to SAP or another system is better built as a custom web application. We build those too, and we are honest about which route suits your goals and budget, instead of pushing the one we prefer.

Whichever you choose, you keep control. You own the site, the content and the domain, and you are never locked into us just to make a change.

Redesigns

Website redesign without losing what already works

A redesign is the riskiest moment in a website’s life, because it is easy to throw away years of search ranking along with the old look. We start by finding out which pages bring visitors and enquiries today, and we plan the new structure so that nothing valuable is lost. Old web addresses are redirected to the right new pages, important content is carried over and improved, and the launch is checked carefully for broken links and missing pages.

The result is a site that looks and performs better without a dip in the traffic you already earn. If your current site is hard to update, slow or insecure, a rebuild on a cleaner foundation usually pays for itself in lower running costs and better results.

The process

How a website project runs

  1. 1

    Understand your website goals

Your audience, your goals, and what your current site does well and badly.

  2. 2

    Plan the website

The structure, the pages and the content that will do the job.

  3. 3

    Design for mobile first

Layouts for phone and desktop, reviewed with you before building.

  4. 4

    Web development and testing

Built for speed, accessibility and security, then tested properly.

  5. 5

    Launch the website

Go live, train your team and keep support available.

Speed

Website performance and Core Web Vitals

Visitors decide within seconds whether a page is worth waiting for, and search engines take speed into account when ranking. A slow site loses customers twice: once when people leave, and again when search engines show it less often. Most slow sites are slow for ordinary reasons, and ordinary fixes work.

We size and compress images properly, serve them in modern formats, load scripts only when they are needed, keep the code lean and test on real mobile connections instead of a fast office network. We measure with independent tools before and after, including Google’s Core Web Vitals, and we show you the numbers, so improvement is a fact and not an opinion. Good custom web development treats Core Web Vitals as a target from the first day, not a fix at the end.

Accessibility

Accessibility: a site that works for everyone

A significant share of people live with some form of disability, and many more use a site in difficult conditions, such as bright sunlight, a slow connection or one hand free. An accessible site serves all of them, and it tends to be clearer for everyone else too.

Accessibility is also good for business and, in many places, a legal expectation. We build to the WCAG guidelines from the start because adding accessibility afterwards costs more and works less well.

Five accessibility basics we build in:

  • Text with enough contrast to be read comfortably.
  • Headings in a sensible order, so screen readers and search engines can follow the page.
  • Descriptive text for images that carry meaning.
  • Forms with clear labels and helpful error messages.
  • Navigation that works with a keyboard as well as a mouse or touch screen.

After launch

Keeping the website healthy after launch

A website is never finished. Prices change, staff come and go, offers expire and new questions arrive. We design the site so your own team can update text, images and pages without calling a developer, and we train them as part of handover so the skills stay with you.

Behind the scenes, a site needs care too: software updates, security patches, backups and checks that forms still deliver. You can look after those yourself or have us do it under a support agreement with clear response times. Either way, you will know who is responsible for what, and you will never be left with a site nobody dares touch. Our penetration testing service can also check a website or web application for security weaknesses before and after launch.

Integrations

A website that connects to the rest of your business

A modern website often does more than display pages. It takes enquiries, bookings and orders, and passes them to the systems your team already uses. Because we also build integrations and custom software, we can connect your site to a CRM, a booking tool, an ERP such as SAP or an internal system, so that information flows automatically instead of being copied by hand.

FAQ

Web development FAQs

Can our team update the website after launch?

Yes. That is part of what easy to update means to us, and we cover it in handover.

Are performance and accessibility extra in custom web development?

No. Performance, accessibility and clean structure are standard on every build, not add ons, and we aim for good Core Web Vitals scores on every page.

What kind of website do you build?

Marketing sites, WordPress sites, web applications, customer facing portals, redesigns and rebuilds of existing sites.

Do you build on WordPress?

Yes. WordPress suits many business sites, and we build with a lean theme and only the plugins that are needed. For portals and tools that need more, we build custom web applications.

Will a website redesign hurt our Google ranking?

Not if it is planned properly. We identify the pages that bring traffic, keep their value, redirect old addresses to the right new pages and check the launch carefully.

Who owns the website?

You do. You own the site, the content and the domain, and you are never locked into us just to make a change.

Why choose custom web development over a template?

A template is quick, but it carries code you do not need and limits what the site can do. Custom web development builds only what your visitors use, so pages load faster, rank better and connect cleanly to your CRM, ERP or booking system.
